Ideal Information on some of the Major Travel Documents

Travel documents are one of the most important aspects of traveling internationally. With a few exceptions,
if you are leaving your country you will need a passport. The passport is your proof of who you are and where you are from. When traveling internationally, your personal ID is not accepted as identification. There are some exceptions. For those traveling between European countries or between America, Canada, and Mexico, often a birth certificate is enough.

Keep your passport secure throughout your travels. You can put it in a security pocket that you wear inside your clothes. If you lose your passport or find that it is stolen, you need to report it immediately. Contact the embassy for your country right away. They will help you fill out the important paperwork to file your passport as stolen. You will also have to fill out a replacement request. Your embassy will help you to make sure you have the necessary documentation to get you home in time. Traveling with a copy of your passport will help make this process go more smoothly. Also, leave a copy with friends or relatives back at home, so they can send it to you if needed. Keep the copy in a different place then where you store your passport.
Packing
Pack carefully for your trip. Avoid the temptation to over-pack. Remember that you will have to carry your luggage with you. Also, many airports have luggage weight restrictions. Research the weather before you go, and pack the right kind of clothes. Save space by packing travel sized options whenever possible. Just make sure that you have enough of your personal toiletries. These might be hard to find while you are on your trip if you should run out.

Get Familiar with Your Destination
When researching your trip, get as familiar as you can with the local customs and laws of the area you will be visiting. While you will not be likely to blend in completely while traveling abroad, it is a good idea to know what is expected to be considered polite. Also, some countries have strict religious beliefs, and if you cross these beliefs, you will be highly offensive to your hosts. Learn important phrases, such as "where is the bathroom" that will make your stay more comfortable.
How to Avoid Being Robbed
The best way to avoid being robbed is to avoid looking like a tourist. If you walk around in traditionally tourist looking garb, you will be a prime target. Also, do not carry your valuables in an obvious location, such as your back pocket. Secure them within your clothing if possible. There are special pouches that have been designed to be worn under shirts that are perfect for this. Avoid wearing many pieces of jewelry or expensive clothing. Try to blend in as much as possible to avoid becoming a target.
How to Handle Money
There are many people out there who would love to take advantage of an unsuspecting tourist. If you need to get your money changed, only do so at authorized locations, such as banks. Avoid moneychangers that are not affiliated with a well-known bank. Travel with traveler's checks whenever possible. Also, try to spend the local currency. Some popular tourist locations will accept other forms of currency, such as dollars, but they will often over charge if not using their natural currency.
Planning Your Trip
Before you head to the airport, plan your trip carefully. Make sure you know what sights are "must-sees" for you and your family. Make a list of optional sites. Try to plan a potential schedule of events. Remember to build some flexibility into your schedule, though. You never know when you might have a mishap or see something you want to explore and did not know about before you left. Also, be sure not to pack too much into your trip. You are on a vacation; remember to take some time to rest!
Water
One of the most dangerous things you can consume in many countries is water. Your body is used to the parasites and bacteria that live in your water, but the water in other countries contains different organisms. People native to that country might be fine drinking it, but just one drink could make you seriously ill. To avoid spending the majority of your vacation sick in bed, drink bottled water, just to be safe. It will add a little expense to your trip, but considering the alternative, it's better to be safe than sorry.

By following the above travel tips and planning your vacation carefully, you can help to make sure that you have the trip of a lifetime.
